Crime Reduction

Police Bulletins

The 6th District (which covers Wash West) and the 3rd District often issue Crime Prevention Bulletins for residents’ use. Below, please find links to download various bulletins:

Police Service Area 3

Safety is certainly a priority in Wash West. We encourage everyone to attend our PSA 3 (Police Service Area) meetings held at 6:00pm, the second Tuesday of every month prior to our regular board meetings. The meetings are held in the Zubrow Auditorium of Pennsylvania Hospital at 8th & Spruce.

A representative of the 6th District Police Department will be on hand to discuss crime, recent arrests and address any of your concerns. Please come out and make your voice heard about any unwanted activity in your neighborhood.

The 6th District wants to remind everyone to get to know your neighbors, be familiar with their routine so you can identify any unusual happenings. One way to meet your neighbors is to attend a PSA 3 meeting.

Have a question or comment for the 6th district? They encourage email contact at ppd.06_psa3@phila.gov

Fun Fact:

The name “Washington Square West” came into official use in the late 1950s and early 1960s as part of Edmund Bacons comprehensive plan for Center City.

YOUR security cameras can help fight crime!

The Philadelphia Police Department is encouraging residents and business owners to join an innovative crime prevention and investigation program, the SafeCam Network. With SafeCam, homeowners and businesses can register their private security cameras with the Philadelphia Police Department. This allows the police to quickly locate and request video footage that could assist with criminal investigations.

Registration is easy, confidential, and only takes about 10 minutes. Simply log on to safecam.phillypolice.com and provide basic information and where the cameras are located. A member of the Police Department will contact you to verify your registration. Once you are registered, the police will only contact you if there is a criminal incident in the vicinity and they need to request your video footage. You can delete your registration at any time.

For more information, or to register, visit safecam.phillypolice.com.

Graffiti

You can fight graffiti in Wash West by reporting it quickly and helping to get it removed. The Philadelphia Anti-Graffiti Network, or PAGN, will remove graffiti from most surfaces. PAGN is administered by the Managing Director’s Office of the City of Philadelphia. They document the graffiti and prosecute the perpetrators when they are found. Report graffiti immediately by calling the Graffiti Abatement Team at 215-685-9555 or the Anti-Graffiti Information Line at 215-685-9556.

Graffiti on brick, stone, cement, metal and most other unpainted surfaces is most often removed by power-washing (water and cleanser applied at high pressure). Graffiti on wood or painted surfaces must usually be painted over.
