Benefits of Membership
The Washington Square West Civic Association brings neighbors together to care for our shared neighborhood. For over 90 years, WSWCA has worked to protect quality of life in Washington Square West by supporting cleaner streets, safer public spaces, historic preservation, local businesses, and strong community connections.
Whether you rent or own, are new to the neighborhood or have lived here for years, WSWCA is a place to stay informed, get involved, and have a voice in what happens where you live.
As a proud member of the Washington Square West Civic Association, you will receive:
- Regular issues of our e-Post, containing the latest neighborhood news sent to your email address
- Invitations to our various events, including:
- social get-togethers at local restaurants and businesses;
- candidates’ nights;
- cleanup days with your neighbors (depending on fund availability);
- occasional presentations of local interest;
- street cleaning (depending on fund availability);
- and more
You will be supporting such important programs to increase the beauty and safety of our streets; the planting of trees to enhance the appearance of our neighborhood; community gardens, which provide needed recreation, peaceful activity, and even food; and sidewalk cleaning.
Fun Fact:
The name “Washington Square West” came into official use in the late 1950s and early 1960s as part of Edmund Bacon‘s comprehensive plan for Center City.
