On behalf of the entire neighborhood, the Wash West Civic Association joins other Philadelphians in mourning the death of Emily Fredericks. The tragic accident that took her life unites us all in an awareness that the streets of Philadelphia must be safe for everyone.

Last January the Civic sponsored an open discussion about the concerns of bicyclists, pedestrians, residents and motorists who live in or travel through our community. At that time the city spoke about several possibilities for the bike lanes and committed to returning to the community to present options for Pine and Spruce Streets.

We have asked the City again to prepare and share plans for bike lanes on Spruce and Pine Streets that recognize the need for safe use of our streets.

As soon as the City responds we look forward to sponsoring a full and timely discussion in a forum that welcomes everyone.
