Washington Square West Civic Association Preservation Task Force
Preserving the Historic Heart of Washington Square West
Washington Square West is more than a neighborhood—it’s a living story. With its rich cultural heritage and architectural charm, preserving this legacy isn’t just important; it’s essential. Our Historic Preservation Task Force is dedicated to safeguarding the character, history, and diverse stories that make Washington Square West so special.
With over 50% of buildings in the neighborhood already being individually historically designated, we simply need to update the nomination. To accomplish this, we need to raise $13,500. Can we count on you?

Washington Square West is a layered community—home to African American leaders, LGBTQ+ pioneers, Jewish immigrants, and artists who helped shape the spirit of Philadelphia.
From the William Way LGBT Community Center to Portico Row and the Mikveh Israel Cemetery, our streets echo the city’s broader story. Each historic structure we save is one more chapter preserved for future generations.
