COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

AND RESOURCES

Trash Delayed this week

Due to Indigenous People’s Day holiday, trash pick up in the neighborhood is delayed by a day. Help keep the neighborhood clean and do not put your trash out early. Remind your neighbors too.

Want to refresh on all the residential rules? Check them out here.

McCall School fundraiser

McCall HSA has lots of creative fundraising efforts underway.  Here’s another way to support the local award winning public school, while providing something on your shopping list.

Linvilla Pies can be ordered here.

Define Art, History & Storytelling

The City of Philadelphia is developing a pilot program to broaden how we define art, history, and storytelling in our city. There is a Town Hall on Thursday 10/13 at 6 PM at 1723 Callowhill Street (Center For Business & Industry – Community College of Philadelphia) RSVP here.

The survey begins with inviting community members and leaders to help identify themes and issues. This will inform the framework we use to identify the cultural resources that tell a rich and inclusive story of PhiladelphiaTake the Survey here.

Independence Library – Hours

The neighborhood library is making plans to re-open with extended hours. Help them decide them. Take the Survey on Branch Hours.

Linens for Morris Animal Refuge

Linens are essential in making pups feel comfortable at the shelter! If you have any old sheets, blankets or towels, please consider donating them to the shelter.

You can drop off donations at our locations any day of the week between 11am and 4pm.

A Short Walk To Work…

Free Food to Residents

Trick or Treat Map

We have a pretty solid trick or treating in the larger collective neighborhood. But if you want to help kids spread out a bit, use this

interactive community populated map that Proxi Map developed for safe trick or treating. Developed in Seattle, it’s being tested out in Philly this year.

For these things to work, the community has to contribute. Share if you are handing out treats – they have a variety of choices to decide from such as No-Touch to stoop giveaway. Add your address/block to the map here.

Love to Bike?

Join the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, the National Youth Bike Council, and the Haverford College Center for Peace and Global Citizenship for the Main Line to Manayunk Bike ‘n Bite. The Bike ‘n Bite offers free registration, including a post-ride meal, for the first fifty registrants under the age of 25. Find out more here.

Did you know the City has clothing and electronics recycling?

In 2020, SmartCityPHL partnered with Retrievr to offer on-demand doorstep collection for clothing and electronics. Read more about the service here. Schedule a pick up by calling or texting PICKUP to 757.70.FETCH (757.703.3824).

Library Playgroup – Fridays 10-11:30

Just outside of the neighborhood, but close enough to share. The Charles Santore Library at 932 S. 7th Street is hosting Playgroups weekly. They also host a variety of other things. Check them out here.

Build our tree canopy – for FREE

The Wash West Tree Tenders want to help you add to our neighborhood tree canopy. We work with PHS to plant bare-root trees bi-annually and we are planning for the next planting now.
