COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

AND RESOURCES

Police LGBTQ Liaison Committee

The Washington Square West Civic Association wants you to know we have your back.  After the tragedy that has befallen the LGBTQ+ community this past weekend, we want to reach out and say that we support you, we are thinking of you, and we are here for you.  In the LGBTQ community and the Wash West Community, we take care of each other!  With the Thanksgiving holiday right around the corner, this coming Wednesday will be a busy day for the nightclubs, restaurants, and bars in the Gayborhood and we want to inform the community of the additional steps being taken to ensure the public’s safety.

The Philadelphia Police Department will be stepping up patrols around the clubs, bars, and restaurants in the Gayborhood on Wednesday, November 23rd, 2022. Furthermore, additional resources will be assigned to the police detail devoted to patrolling the Gayborhood. Safety is our number one priority in our community as well as everyone who lives, works and plays in our vibrant neighborhood.

Chicken Nugget or Bat?

PA Bat Rescue says their busy season is starting with migrating silver haired bats that are either injured or starving. They ask finders to NOT put bats in trees or try any measure of releasing them. It is way to late in the year for bats in Pennsylvania to find adequate food. Bats are great at not being found, so when they are found they need help! Pic of LA’s rescue from December 2021.

Happy Thanksgiving

We are so thankful to be part of this community. While you are celebrating with friends, and family, the ASPCA has some safety tips for your fur babies.

Here’s additional safety advice from the National Fire Prevention agency for common issues around the holidays.
